ATSM Challenge #40 - Photo Inspiration

Hi there!! How are we all today?
We have a new, exciting challenge over at ATSM and it's a photo inspiration!
The thing I love about Photo Inspiration's is that you can really take inspiration from ANY element of the photo and make it your own.
For me, it was the whole 'tropical' feel about this photo.
Here is my DT card -
I have used an image from Meljen Designs called Beach Sandals.
Here in Australia we call them......... wait for it................ thongs......
Now while you all are laughing, I will explain my card ;)
I have paper pieced the thongs with paper that I got from a scrapbook kit while on a cruise in Hawaii. Can't get more tropical than that!! The paper also has cocktail glasses throughout. I have added a big blob of Glossy Accents on the middle flowers on top of the thongs. I have also paper pieced the little flowers around the thongs.
Then I made a mask of the thongs so I could sponge my tropical island sunset. I have used Daffodil Delight, Rose Red and Pumpkin Pie.
The sentiment is also from Meljen Designs and I have just gone over the text with Stampin Write markers and then coloured in the shells.
Now, I hope I have said the word 'thongs' enough.... ;)
We have the wonderful Heather Ellis back again with us as a sponsor this week -
Now it is your turn to interpret the photo inspiration so pop on over to the challenge blog to see what the other ladies have come up with.
We also have a DT call going at the moment, so if you feel like having the chance to join the best DT going around, check out what you need to do over at the challenge.
Thanks so much for looking xx

  1. Fabulous and fun thong card Kylie! When I was a kid that is what we called them - then they became "flip flops" and I got laughed at (by my kids and nieces) every time I called them thongs. Then I got used to saying flip flops and they are back to thongs here too - go figure :o) did I say "thong" enough too?

Really love how you did this card. I can't wait to be able to wear toeless shoes (decided not to say "thongs" again) but we still have snow - ;O(

  2. Hi Kylie. I love your thongs. The thongs are so pretty with the paper piecing and the glossy accents on the thongs is just perfect. Also love the paper pieced flowers around the thongs ... and then all the sponging you did after masking the thongs. Have I said thongs enough times?? I thought maybe there was a contest or something ... I'm pretty sure you would win! :) Anyways, same as Danielle above ... we used to call them thongs when I was a kid ... now they are flip-flops ... thong has a whole other meaning and would look really silly on someones feet! :) LOVE your card!! Loll xx

  3. I love your fun and bright card, Kylie, so summery colors! I also love this funny thong-discussion going on here... :) Since in Finland the weather is not too often appropriate for flip flops, I don't think they have any nickname in my language but their official name is weird enough... Sneakers are "tossut" in Finnish and a toe is "varvas" -for some odd reason, flip flops are called "varvastossut" -Sneakers for toes! Sneakers? What? Isn't that weird!! :) lol

  4. Hi Kylie
What a super card for summer. Love the bright and cheerful colour palette, the sentiment and the so called thongs/flip flops. Can't really comment on the weirdness of the word thongs because English is not my first language and for these types of shoes I learnt the word flip flops which is funny to me as it is anyway (LOL).

  10. When I was a kid we also called them thongs. Sometimes I still hear people call them that but it still makes me smile. :) Either way, yours look great. I love the paper piecing and the "blob" in the center of the flowers. The bright colors are really cheery and lovely too.

  11. Fab card Kylie and all the talk of " thongs " made me giggle! I've always called them flip flops and steer clear of anything resembling a thong, probably an age issue!!!!
Your card really exudes heat and makes me long for the summer. We are predicted good weather for the weekend which is typical as I'm off to spend the day on Saturday at a huge craft fair and meeting up with some blogging friends:)
