Favourite Technique at IBS

Welcome back everyone. This week at Inspired by Stamping we are showcasing our favourite techniques when making a card.

If you are a close follower of mine, you will know that I love to watercolour and my latest craze is using brushos for my backgrounds.

This is one of my favourites backgrounds that I have made so far. The blues are nice and bright and I love the effect that was created.

Here is my card -

To create this background you will need

*Cardstock - normal or watercolour
*Brushos
(or other waterbased medium - Pearl Powders, Distress reinkers, Glimmer Mists, Color Wash sprays)
*Aerosol can of Laundry starch (I bought mine from the local supermarket)
*Cling Wrap

Technique - spray your cardstock with the starch then sprinkle your brushos over the top. Spray starch again and then lay crinkled up cling wrap over your panel. LEAVE it for at least 30 minutes to allow the paints to go up into the creases of the cling wrap. You are trying to create a marble looking effect.

When my panel was dry, I die cut it in two places so I could adhere them separately onto my card.

Then I embossed the sentiment from the new Friends stamp set.

same with the Butterfly from the new Butterflies stamp set.

The finishing touch was a few sequins.

I hope I have inspired you to give this technique a go. It really is fun with beautiful (and unique) results.

ATCAS Challenge #62

Hi there everyone, how are you this weekend?

It's been a very early start for me, my dad and my son as we were up at 4.30am to attend the Dawn Service. Today is ANZAC day and also the 100th year since our soldiers landed at Gallipoli. Today is a day for Remembrance and gratitude. My great-grandfather was at Gallipoli and we have been going through his war records. It gets very emotional to think about the young men and women who fought for our country. Some of them younger than my own son who is 20 years old. So sad...

Ok, onto the new challenge over at Addicted to CAS.

The amazing and very talented Barb has chosen our code word for this challenge -

Please remember to only use the colour stated :)

Here is my DT card -

I embossed a heap of butterflies that have a coordinating punch from SU. I popped them all up on foam pads. The sentiment is from Inspired by Stamping.

This card is going to my Aunty who was on the cruise with me. She has had surgery on both her feet so I wanted to send her a get well card.

We have our wonderful guest designer, Pia, with us again for this challenge so don't forget to pop by and say hello.

Would you believe I made this card a couple of weeks ago knowing that the Lil' Inker Monthly meet up was coming up and looking at the DT inspiration there... I may as well have CASED Maureen!! LOL. (Bugger! I missed the deadline completely!!)

My panel was left over from previously using the Brushos, Starch and Cling Wrap technique.

A very simple card. Embossed sentiment and little clouds popped up with foam pads.

IBS Designer Feature

Happy Saturday everyone.

Today is my turn at being the Featured Designer at Inspired by Stamping.

I have been playing a lot with watercolouring. Sometimes I like to emboss my image first as it makes it a bit easier to work with. I decided to colour the Galah from the Australian Birds set.

Here is my card -

I'm lucky to have these birds visit the tree in my backyard almost every day.

I started by embossing the Galah in black powder. Once dry, I used my Stampin' Up pads by pressing the case together so the ink would be in the lid. Then I used a small brush to add my colour.

I used my heat gun to dry the colours as I was working with them so I could add more depth here and there.

Lastly, with a large brush I created the background and the splats around the bird.

Happy Saturday everyone. What have you got planned for your weekend.

I'm not really well at the moment. Sore throat and aching all over :(

I made a very quick card for Time Out where they have an 'Inspired by Words' challenge

'You can't make a Rainbow without a little Rain'

Here is my card -

All the dies are from Lil' Inkers and the sentiment by Whimsy Stamps has been embossed.

I love taking photos of rainbows after a storm. Here is one I took back in January

3D Masculine project using Australian Birds

Hi everyone. We are showcasing Masculine projects this week at Inspired by Stamping and I have come up with a 3D project to share with you.

I must admit I was quite stuck as I rarely do masculine cards let alone 3D projects. Great way to get me out of my comfort zone!!

I have created a watercoloured kookaburra and then framed it.

I started by embossing my kookaburra with black powder onto watercolour paper and using SU! inks, used a brush to add my colour.

I dried the paint between washes to create different layers of colour.

I really had fun making this little fella and it would be very easy to create a gift box to pop the frame into.

Butterflies

Happy Sunday everyone!

Today I have a card to share with you and I really love how it turned out.

I have used a new release set from Inspired by Stamping - Butterflies

I was inspired by the butterflies on this card HERE

First, I masked and embossed my butterflies. I used brusho powder to colour them in. I sprinkled a very small amount of powder onto my craft mat and sprayed a bit of water to activate them. Using a small brush, I picked up the colour and painted my butterflies.

Once they were dry, I fussy cut them out and popped them up with dimensionals onto another watercoloured piece.

I LOVE this new set

No sentiment for this one but once I know who it is going to, I will pop something on the inside.

ATCAS #61 - SHOWERS

Happy Saturday!!

Gee the time is going fast. Today starts a brand new challenge over at Addicted to CAS. The very talented Shana is our hostess for this fortnight and here is the code word she has chosen for us -

I had lots of ideas for this one but my card came from something that nearly went in the bin!

Here is my card -

I was practising with my Brushos after embossing the butterfly from Inspired by Stamping. Actually I had a number of things going on the one piece of watercolour paper and when I had finished I tossed it to the side and forgot about it.

I happened back into my craft room and picked up the now dry piece and went to throw it in the bin. Something made me look at the 'mess' I had created a little differently. I die cut around the butterfly using a Stitched rectangle die from Lil' Inkers and realised that my butterfly looked to be sitting on a window with rain coming down the glass. Well, that's my interpretation and I'm sticking with it, lol. So, I added a few raindrops from PTI and there you have it.

This time I had used my brushos with a brush. I sprinkled some crystals onto my craft mat and then sprayed a tiny amount of water to get them activated. Then I could pick up the colour with my brush and start colouring.

Now, we have an amazing sponsor for you this fortnight -

Check out the challenge blog for more details regarding the prize!

Confessions of a Cruise Chick Part 2 - and a Card!

Hello! How is everyone today? I've got some more photos and stories to share with you of my recent Cruise to the South Pacific and Fiji. So, a bit of a warning - this post will be photo heavy but if you are just here for my card, just keep on scrollin' to the end ;)

First I would like to share the card that I just made which was inspired by the challenges over at Less Is More and ShowCASe your Style. The card is a little tribute to my friends and family who came on the trip with me.

Here is my card

all stamps and dies are from Whimsy Stamps.

I used the sketch at

and the colour theme at Less is More - predominately black

My card really sums up the trip and cannot wait to plan the next one.

Ok, onto the photos.

Lautoka, Fiji

This was a special day for us Cruise Chicks. My mum had organised with the Fijian Embassy in Australia for us to visit a village which was for single mothers and their children. Mum organised all us girls to bring stuff with us that could be donated - toys, clothes etc.

So, here are the photos from that visit. It was simply amazing (just like my mum) and they made beautiful garlands for us to wear, a yummy lunch and sang and danced for us.

Our transport to the village. Yep, hop in the back and hold on for your life lol

The kiddies waiting patiently for their presents

Dancing, smiling and having fun :)

My sister and mum handing out goodies

Playing soccer with the kids. They loved the new balls, bats and toys that mum brought for them

After we spent a number of hours in the village, we went back to town and did a bit of sightseeing. Then it was back to the ship. Next stop Suva.

Suva, Fiji

Today we hopped off the ship and had photos with our 'Bulla Men' as we called them. Then organised a tour to see the city and visit the Colo-I-Suva Forest Park to see the rainforest and swimming hole/waterfall

yep, me with the 'Bulla Men' :)

Our tour guide was very happy to have photos taken (my idiot sister photo bombed it, though lol)

walking down, down, down to get to the water

Wasn't as big as we thought but it was beautiful. There was a young lad who went swinging off a rope into the water doing all sorts of acrobatics. Crazy!

Peta-Marie had a go. There she is letting go of the rope. Even my mum had a go which scared the crappa out of me....

Ok! There is part 2 done and dusted. More photos will come and maybe even some incriminating ones... if you are lucky ;)
